Blaike Koca, daughter of Dr. Lyle and Shawn Koca of Blair , won the title of world champion of the 13 & Under Western Pleasure class at the American Paint Horse Association World Championship Show held June 23 through July 7, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Koca and her horse, Sum Beach (aka "Dozer"), competed with 47 other youths from across the United States in a class that spanned two days. The first day consisted of three cuts of 16 riders with the top eight progressing into two semi-finals and the top eight riders from each of those classes again progressing to the finals the following day.
Koca began her horse show career with the lead line class when she was 2 1/2 years old. At the age of 5, she added halter and showmanship. Turning 6 meant her walk-trot classes had started.
In 2006, Koca and Dozer teamed up. It was the first year for both of them at the APHA World Show where they competed with approximately 75 other youths and were the fifth-place team.
